Happy New Year
Classes will resume on 8th January after the short Xmas and New Year break. We look forward to an exciting Karate year, with the highlight undoubtedly being the World Cup in Okinawa, Japan in January 2008. Japan has invited 10 athletes from Africa with two participants coming from our dojo, Sensei Marco Meyer in the L/W division and Sempai Kieran Crowe in the M/W division. Zimbabwe will have a strong contingent headed by Sempai Samson Muripo, who could be a strong title contender. Further details will be in our next Gambata editions.

Our dojo gained an additional 3 black belts at our grading, which was held on Saturday 25th November 2006 at Honbu. The grading was attended by Sensei Salie from Belhar and Sempai Samson from Zimbabwe, both entering students grading for black belt. The grading was very tough with the heat being an additional burden. All students had to face senior black belts opponents specially brought in for the grading, with Sempai Samson from Harare showing why he won the Len Barnes Tournament. Lance Marthinus, Justin Petersen and Firhaad Kazi all graded shodan. This after a culmination of 9 years of hard work. All three students started with Shihan Len, Shodan: Malvery Mgambo (Zimbabwe) Mogamat-Dean Salie (Belhar) Fherdous Hoosen (Belhar)

Awards Presentation.
On Sunday 3rd December we held our annual award and prize giving. We had a wonderful day which was attended by one and all. We will definitely have to find a larger venue next year. A big thank you to all of you who made the lunch day such a special one, with special thanks to my brother Ronny who again showed off his culinary skills. After honouring our new black and brown belts, we presented our karate-ka’s of the year. The “Solomon Brothers trophy” for male karate-ka award went to Justin Petersen, the “Gwen Gower trophy” for female karate-ka award went to Michaela Symons and the “Justin Petersen trophy” for most improved karate-ka went to Steven Korber. Congratulations to all three of you, your awards are well deserved. Sensei Charmaine Abrahams and Sempai Carol Russ were both presented with Certificates of Commendation for their individual loyalty and dedication to our Honbu. Thank you for your unwavering devotion and support.

Our Billboard

Our new billboard is up! After months of delay our new advertising billboard is up facing the Virgin Point Health Club. The 3.5 x 1.5 sign is a striking advertising sign. A special thanks to Andrew Emdon for all his patience and hard work in getting the art work done. I think I made him redo it 10 times.

New classes:
We are starting a new Pee Wee (4-5 year olds) class on Wednesdays 15.00 – 15.45 hrs. Remember a 4 year old doesn’t known what a straight line is and all we try and achieve is co-ordination, balance and a little discipline, above all it has to remain fun.

17th February KAWP awards 24th February Zimbabwean Kyokushin Tournament (Harare, Shihan Bas officiating)
25th March Bushido Day at Honbu ALL students to participate.
30th March, end of first school term
