NEWS FLASH!!

Sensei SAMSON MURIPO was honoured as SPORTSMAN and SPORTS PERSON of the year 2009 In Zimbabwe on Saturday 19th December 2009! Sensei Samson who won the World Middle Weight All Japan Kyokushin Union Tournament in June 2009 was selected as sportsman of the year at a glittering ceremony in Harare on the 19th Dec. The Zimbabwe Department of Sport and Culture recognition of Sensei Samson’s achievement was a first for karate in Southern Africa. Samson Muripo carved his name into the elite club of the greatest athletes in the history of Zimbabwean sport. Sportsman of the year HARARE 19th Dec 2009

BLACK BELT GRADING:

On the 5th and 6th December we held our annual brown and black belt grading. This was preceded by a seminar we held, to standardize our kihon and katas which was attended by all our senior karateka and instructors from within Southern Africa. The black belt grading was of a high standard and only 6 students were successful in their quest for higher recognition.

The following students were succesful:
Nidan; Jonathan Smith (Elsiesriver dojo, CT) Oscar Takarupiwa (Zimbabwe). Shodan; Mario Titus, Chadwin Bent, Ziyad Green, Dylan Stalmeester (Colorado Park CT). Congratulations, well done!

Brown 1st Kyu ; Lara Goldin, Francois Holloway, Daniel Sher, Tiana Schwab (all from Greenpoint Honbu)
Brown 2nd Kyu ; Philip Chisayo (Zimbabwe), Jake Klass, Adam Klass, Hugh Delport, Daniel Sherman, Jean-Luc Ciapparelli, Levi Solomon, Alexandre Ortscheit, Sasha Abramowitz (Greenpoint Honbu), Bulumko Madikani, Imaad Adams, Junaid Najjar (Colorado Park CT) Well done and close to the coveted black belt!
Jason Smith received an award for the most improved karateka in 2009, mazeltov!

The Greenpoint Honbu is closed from 17th Dec till 6th January 2010 and on behalf of the SA Kyokushin Union I wish you all a healthy 2010, which promises to be a successful year for our Kyokushin Union in Southern Africa.
