Bushido Day 16th September
On Sunday the 16th we are holding our bi-annuall Bushido day, an open day for our juniors with competitions and demonstrations. All our children, from the 4 year olds up, will participate. The event will start at 09.00 hours and we urge all of you to make sure that you bring your child to participate in demonstrations and fun. As usual we will be finished by 13.00 hours. For the first time we are  going to see our 10 year olds doing Tamashiwari,  that is breaking wood!  Also for the first time our 10 year olds are going to try their hand at “full contact”  that is with headgear, full protection and no head punches of course. PLEASE be there and bring a friend!

FUNDRAISER RE WORLD CUP 2008 IN OKINAWA, JAPAN
Also on the16th  Sept we will be launching our fundraiser to assist our athletes whom have been selected to represent South Africa at the World Tournament in Okinawa on the 18th and 19th Jan 2008.   WE NEED TO RAISE R44 000.!!!

The dinner dance will be held on Saturday the 6th October, PLEASE KEEP THAT DATE OPEN. The venue will be at the RITZ Hotel in Sea Point. As part of the fundraiser we have made a DVD of the Len Barnes Memorial tournament held in May. All the children that participated in the tournament are featured and the DVD will make a wonderful momentum of your childs participation in the tournament. The DVD is obtainable from us @R50.

The low cost made possible due the combined production, at no charge, by Bjorn Rudner and Andrew Emden. All proceeds will go the fundraiser. Please contact Shihan Bas for your copy.

The athletes that are going to represent South Africa are Sensei Marco Meyer, Sempai Kieran Crowe, Jonathan Smith ,whilst Shihan Bas and Sensei Salie will go as officials. Both Zimbabwe and Swaziland will send a team and a representative to the world cup so that AfricaWill have a strong presentation at World Karate Stage.

CONGRATULATIONS SENSEI!
Sensei Samson Muripo was given the opportunity to go to Japan and grade for Sandan. On Saturday 4th August Samson, under the critical eye of Shihan Oishi, the technical adviser of the Kyokushin Union, made his attempt. It was 34 degr Celsius and in these humid conditions Samson was required to

to fight 30 full contact contests of which he won 13,  9 draws and 8 losses, against the top Japanese fighters, a throughly heroic performance by a true Budo karateka. He was given a standing ovation by the Japanese and presented with his Sandan grade and is now a full fledged Sensei. As his South African Shihan I am very proud of him, well done!!

Swaziland
On the 18/19th August I visited Swaziland to assess the Kyokushin Karate organization led by  Sensei Amen Mayesela. The standard of karate was of a high level and I have recommended that they be allowed to join the All Japan Kyokushin Union, Japan. Sensei Amen is a senior karate man with 30 years experience and will be an asset to our proposed establishment of a Southern Africa Kyokushin Union. Sensei Amen will also attend the World Cup Tournament in Okinawa in January 2008.

Visit Shihan Trevor Tockar
For the second time within a year we have had the pleasure of hosting Shihan Trevor from Australia at our Honbu for a training session. Those of you that were unable to attend did themselves an injustice, we had a great time with the dojo being far to small to accommodate all those karateka wanting to train with a very senior Kyokushin shihan.

Karate South Africa
Unfortunately KSA, the national body of karate in SA has again let us down, with the full contact tournament scheduled for the 24/25th August, being cancelled. This is the third time this has happened and they should really get their their act together. The tournament was going to be used by us as a warmup for the World Cup next year. As not to disrupt our preparations we will be hosting a tournament in October 2007.

Ashihara International Tournament
Kyokushin Karate entered 40 students in the above tournament, walking away with 26 tropies and medals! The majority going to Sensei Salie Rachmatoli with 20 medals and a 2nd place in the Sabaki full contact contest..From our Honbu we collected 5 medals. In the under 10 year old division Samuel Rosenberg got Gold, Maset Thamie and Cliffton Kaewkarn bronze whilst in the under 13 division Adam and Jake Klass got bronze medals. They were very unlucky not to be 1st and 2nd! Samuel Rosenberg proved that his first place at the Len Barnes Memorial in May was certainly no fluke.
